How to sanitize your vehicle against COVID-19

COVID-19

If concern over the COVID-19 outbreak has made you more conscious of your cleaning habits — especially as they relate to your car—don’t worry. There are a few simple things to keep in mind when you clean your vehicle, both now and in the future.

Choose the right cleaner

Making sure that you’re using the right kind of soap or disinfectant on the right material is just as important for you as it is for your car. It’s recommended that you use fabric cleaner on cloth seats, leather-specific cleaners on leather upholstery like seating, shift knobs, and armrests. Also, using regular disinfectants on hard-touch surfaces will be best as long as you don’t spray anything directly onto electronics.

Keep a close eye on high-traffic areas

You should pay special attention to any surface that gets touched frequently, both inside and out. If you regularly disinfect the steering wheel, door handles, any touchscreen displays, and armrests, you should be able to curb the spread of germs.

Don’t forget the kids

If you have children — especially if they’re young enough to need car seats — make sure to give those a thorough cleaning. It’s also a good idea to keep their toys clean and clear, especially if they bring them out of the car at any point
